The gardens are known for their towering, ancient trees that provide ample shade, making it an ideal place to escape the heat.
One of the most striking features of the Royal Independence Gardens is the presence of giant fruit bats, locally known as "flying foxes," which roost in the trees during the day. Visitors can often spot these large, impressive creatures hanging from the branches, adding a unique and natural charm to the area.
The garden is also home to several important landmarks, including the Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm shrine, a sacred site where locals come to pray for good fortune and protection. This makes the gardens not only a place of relaxation but also of cultural and spiritual significance.
There is no entrance fee to visit the Royal Independence Gardens.
The park is located to the north of the town, adjacent to the Siem Reap River. It is on the corner of where Charles De Gaulle and Road 6 meet. To get to the park from the Old Market and Pub Street area, you can walk along Pokambor Avenue which runs alongside the river. Alternatively, you can take a tuk-tuk or bicycle.
