The world's largest kesarkol (Orchids), which has been in Cambodia for nearly 10 years, has bloomed for the first time in the kesarkol garden of the Sok An kesarkol Research and Conservation Center, Phnom Kulen, in Siem Reap. This type of kesarkol can grow hundreds of meters tall and live for hundreds of years, according to the Ministry of Environment.

The world's largest kesarkol is known in Khmer as Preah Traheng. Preah Traheng is a rare type of kesarkol tree in Cambodia that grows in the Cardamom Mountains of Koh Kong Province and the Dangrek Mountains of Preah Vihear Province and Siem Reap Province.

According to the Ministry of Environment, the Preah Traheng Kesarkol in the Kesarkol Prey Garden of the Sok An Phnom Kulen Kesarkol Research and Conservation Center in Siem Reap is currently blooming for the first time. The Preah Traheng Kesarkol can grow between 0.5 meters and 3 meters in height, and can have leaves up to 0.75 meters long and can weigh 2 tons per bunch. The Ministry of Environment stated that the Preah Traheng Kesarkol can bloom between 80 and 100 flowers per stem, and up to 7,000 flowers per bunch. The flower stalk of the Preah Traheng Kesarkol can be 2 meters long. When its flowers bloom, they can bloom for between 2 and 3 months per season. Sok Wijja, a technician at the Sok An Phnom Kulen Kesarkol Garden, said: A cluster of kesarkol Preah Traheng in the Kesarkol Sok An, Phnom Kulen, has been there for more than 7 years. Currently, the kesarkol has grown to a height of 2 meters and is blooming for the first time.

The technician stated: “Of all the types of kesarkol, no kesarkol is bigger than the kesarkol Preah Traheng. Normal kesarkols are small and cannot grow to a height of 2-3 meters like the kesarkol Preah Traheng.” He continued that the season when kesarkol flowers is from April.
