Celebrating 17 Years of Preah Vihear Temple as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Congratulations on the 17th anniversary of the inscription of Preah Vihear Temple on the UNESCO World Heritage List, marking a significant milestone in Cambodia's cultural and historical preservation. On July 7, 2008, the majestic Preah Vihear Temple was officially recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO due to its outstanding universal value, remarkable architecture, and profound spiritual significance. Situated atop a 525-meter cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains along the Cambodian-Thai border, the temple is an exceptional example of Khmer architecture from the early 11th to 12th centuries. Its unique location, intricate carvings, and symbolic religious elements reflect the artistic and spiritual height of the Khmer Empire.
The recognition by UNESCO has not only brought global attention to Preah Vihear Temple but has also strengthened national pride and reaffirmed Cambodia's dedication to protecting its rich cultural heritage. Over the past 17 years, Preah Vihear has continued to captivate both local and international visitors, standing as a symbol of resilience, identity, and architectural brilliance. As we celebrate this anniversary on July 7, 2025, we honor the temple’s historical importance, and the efforts made to conserve and promote it for future generations. May this heritage site continue to inspire and connect people from around the world.
